Police have arrested three bus workers in connection with the gang-rape of a passenger bus in Bogra area of Gazipur. They were later sent to jail by the court.
On February 7, the accused filed a confessional statement in court.
Inspector Nandlal Chowdhury of Basan Police Station of Gazipur Metropolitan Police said that the rape took place on the Dhaka bypass road of Gazipur metropolis around 12pm on February 12.
He said that the victim was returning to Tongi from the house of a relative in Gazipur that night. After going some distance, the victim and the other woman with her were dropped off from the bus without a passenger. At that time, the bus drivers and assistants stopped them when they wanted to get down.
The accused then raped the victim on the bus. The accused fled on the morning of February 7. Later, the locals shouted at the two women and rescued them and took them to the police station. On receiving the news, police seized the bus at the scene.
Police arrested three workers on the bus that morning after another female passenger filed suit against them.
The police officer admitted that the accused had admitted to court in Gazipur court on February 3 after admitting the facts.
