The word manik comes from the Sanskrit word 'manikya'. Manik is a lunatic paddy. The word bald is French. The history of the Manikganj name is still mysterious today. In the first half of the eighteenth century, the Sufi saint, Manik Shah, came to Maniknagar of Singaiir upazila and established the Khanka and started spreading Islam. According to some, Manikganj sub-division was renamed after May 7 as a tribute to Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah's residence killer Manik Chand. The note regarding the naming of the Manikganj subdivision is based on three different local reports and estimates. No historical basis has been found for this, but the manikganj subdivision under the name of Manik Shah is believed to be accurate because of the information and the flow of events related to the naming of the Manikganj sub-division.
