The ICC is planning to host a new tournament called 'Champions Cup' in ODIs and Twenty20 cricket. The world's highest cricket regulatory body wants to include these two tournaments in the next cycle of the future index (2021-27).
Cricket website ESPN Cricinfo said on Tuesday (February 8th) that the ICC wants to host the Twenty20 Champions Cup with five teams and the one-day Champions Cup with that team.
According to the ICC's proposal, the Twenty20 'Champions Cup' will be held in 2020 and 2021 and one-day Champions Cup in 2021 and 2021. In addition, the Twenty20 World Cup will be held in 2021 and 21 and the One Day World Cup in 2021 and 20.
The Twenty20 Champions Cup will be organized with the top five teams in the rankings. There will be a total of four matches in the tournament which is similar to last year's one-day World Cup. The ODI Champions Cup could be considered as the long-standing ICC Champions Trophy. There will be a total of 3 matches in this tournament.
The ICC is planning to start the one-day and Twenty20 Champions Cup not only for boys but also for girls.
Full-member countries of the ICC have been given time until March 7 to express their interest in bidding (submitting tenders) to host the tournament in the 2020-27 cycle.
Under the terms of the tender sought by the ICC, the host country of each tournament will be able to generate revenue from tickets, hospitality and catering. And the ICC will get revenue from all kinds of commercial and broadcasting rights.
However, the proposal could lead to conflicts with the ICC with the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI), Cricket Australia (CA) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Because the richest of the board, three of the board is already claiming to have an empty schedule to play bilateral series between themselves. If the ICC's plans are finally implemented, the chances of playing a bilateral series in the three countries will be significantly reduced and they may face financial losses.
